— The blues and the music of Johnny Cash are on tap this weekend at the Warwick Valley Winery's Black and Blues Weekend.

On Saturday, July 27, the Doc's Blues take over. Performers include The Reddan Brothers Band, The Midnight Street Shakers, the Petey Hop Band and Stone Flower, a Santana tribute band.

Celebrate the blues with some barbecue too. This year’s menu is an explosion of local flavor. Locally raised, grass feed, smoked brisket and smoked pork from Lowland Farms will be available as well as corn and other black dirt vegetables. In addition, expertly prepared barbecue oysters will be available for purchase. Music and barbecue start at noon,

This Sunday is Black Sunday at the winery, with a musical tribute to the man in black, Johnny Cash. Black Sunday started eight years ago to pay tribute to Johnny Cash and celebrate his life and music. This year's performers include Tim O’Donohue, The Dave McKeon band, 4 Gun Ridge, Big Jim Wheeler and the Wheels of Fire Band, and The Whiskey Sinners. Come hear your favorite Cash songs as well as those obscure classics you never knew.

Big Jim Wheeler has been called ‘a throwback to the future’ and is arguably the best-kept secret in American music. He hails from both the Adirondacks of upstate New York and the Blue Ridge Mountains of South Carolina. The band features Billy Roues on electric guitar and mandolin, Muddy Roues on double bass and harmonica, Mike Corbin on acoustic guitar and Bill Rankin on drums.

The Winery’s bakery and café, Pané, will be open serving sandwiches and pizzas. The outdoor grill and barbecue will also be open.

The festivities each day are from 12 to 5 p.m. Cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door for each of the events. Outside food is not allowed.
