Dr. Robert Feldman will discuss laparoscopic hernia repair WARWICK - As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of healthcare for the Warwick community, St. Anthony Community Hospital has been hosting a three-part series of health education lectures by Dr. Robert Feldman, a board certified surgeon affiliated with the hospital. The subjects of the three monthly presentations, which began in September and will conclude this December, involve the treatment of vein disorders, breast cancer and laparoscopic hernia repair. On Monday evening, Dec. 11, Feldman will conclude his series of presentations with a discussion of hernias and hernia repair. He will explain what hernias are and where they occur. He also will discuss the options available for a patient who has a hernia and, in particular, laparoscopic hernia repair, a technique to fix tears in the abdominal wall. By using small incisions, telescopes and a patch, the procedure usually offers a faster return to normal activities with a decrease in pain for most patients. Feldman pioneered laparoscopic hernia repair in this area and has been teaching and using this procedure since 1996. He is one of a limited number of local surgeons who are qualified to perform this type of surgery. The lecture, which begins at 7 p.m., will be held in the Greenbriar Room at Mount Alverno Center, 20 Grand Ave., Warwick, NY. Mount Alverno is just a short distance, approximately two blocks, past St. Anthony Community Hospital. Ample parking is available. Immediately after his presentation, Feldman, whose general and vascular surgery practice is located at 218 Ronald Reagan Blvd., in Warwick (986-7830), will answer specific questions from the audience.
