Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. soars at SUNY Orange

MIDDLETOWN — The award-winning Acting Out Playhouse in conjunction with SummerStar Theatre will present Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. on July 21 at 7 p.m. and July 22 at 3 p.m., at the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall on the Middletown campus of SUNY Orange.
Peter Pan Jr. is the story of the boy who wouldn’t grow up and the girl who had to. After finding his shadow in the Darling family nursery, Peter teaches Wendy, Michael and John how to fly and sweeps them off to Never Land, where they meet the Lost Boys, mermaids, Indians and, of course, pirates. If the children are ever to return home, Peter must defeat Captain Hook with the help of Tinker Bell and her fairy friends.
The show features songs from the 1953 film, based on the play by J.M. Barrie, including, “You Can Fly,” “Following the Leader” and “The Second Star to the Right,” as well as songs from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and the 2008 Disney film, Tinker Bell.
The Acting Out Playhouse features young, local talent. Eighteen Orange County-area youngsters, ages 9-13, are in the show. With creative staging under the direction of Terry Odell and musical direction by William Odell, each member of this youth ensemble gets time in the spotlight.
Tickets can be pre-ordered for $15 online at theactingoutplayhouse.net or purchased for $18 at the box office. Group rates apply for 10 or more.
The William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall is air conditioned and wheelchair accessible. Parking is available in the college parking lot at the intersection of Wawayanda and Grandview avenues.
