Dinner to raise money for teen with muscular dystrophy
Chester Fourteen-year-old Josh McDermott of Newburgh was diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy. He can still make it up the stairs to his bedroom, but his parents are afraid as his disease continues to progress, he will fall. They hope to remodel their home to be able to move his bedroom downstairs with an accessible bathroom and shower. His dad built their home and plans on doing the work himself with the help of some friends. To help the family achieve its goal, the Special Children’s Fund will hold a buffet dinner at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, at Kuhl’s Highland house in Middletown. Tickets for the dinner are $30 per person, which includes a cash bar. Reserved seating is for tables of 10 only; no tickets will be sold at the door. No reservations will be taken later than July 1. Baskets filled with goods worth $25 to $100 will be raffled off at the dinner. The Special Children’s Fund was established five years ago solely to raise money for children in need. It has always been the wish and dream of its founder, Debbie Finnegan, and the rest of the committee to find a way to raise money to help local children with special needs. Mail donations directly to the Special Children’s Fund Inc., 96 Old Mansion Road, Chester, N.Y. 10918-4800 by June 25. For further information, or to donate a prize and have it picked up, or to attend dinner, call Finnegan at 783-0894 or Terry Meyer at 342-9028.
