New Paltz —A vigil will take place in the Village of New Paltz demanding an immediate cease-fire accompanied by a withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon and a halt to U.S. financial, military and political support for the invasion. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 12, on Main Street (Route 299) near the New Paltz shopping mall (with the new Stop and Shop supermarket), just west of New Paltz Thruway Exit 18. The heavy-rain date is Sunday. The Hudson Valley Activist Newsletter and Mid-Hudson ANSWER are organizing the event in conjunction with a national demonstration in Washington and protests in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other cities on Aug. 12. “This war must be brought to an immediate halt, and we urge activists from throughout the Hudson Valley region to join our protest on Saturday,” said an Aug. 8 statement from the organizers.
