Middletown — The Los del Barrio Dance Company will present a program of flamenco, the impassioned art form expressed through baile (dance), toque (guitar), and cante (song). The performance will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Orange Hall Theater, located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview Avenues on the campus of Orange County Community College in Middletown. Titled “Viva Flamenco,” the show is directed by Maya de Silva Chafe, who also will dance. Flamenco is rooted in the folklore native to the Andalusian region of Spain. It is known for its complex rhythms, guitar work, and melismatic singing, and is often enhanced with hand clapping and castanets, foot-stamping, and colorful costumes. Los del Barrio will include all of these ingredients when it takes the stage with its dancers, flamenco guitarist Jose Ramon Ramos, and singer Arturo Cid. Tickets are $8 for general admission; $6 for faculty, staff, and alumni; $5 for senior citizens; and free for all students and children. Group rates are available.
