Dance school to present concert Feb. 24
Monroe International musicians and music faculty will perform in concert on Sunday, Feb. 24, in conjunction with an art exhibit opening, at Orange County School of Dance. Sergei Arzoumanov will perform J. S. Bach’s “Loure.” Arzoumanov is a winner of the National Music Competition in Tajikistan, has several releases under the Melodiya label, is a former member of the Soviet Composers Union and is currently managing director of the South Nyack Recital Series. Oleg Arzoumanov will perform Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.” Arzoumanov performs extensively in New York City and has performed at Carnegie Hall. Nafisa Manapat, a graduate of the College of Music Education in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and also attended the Moiseyev Dance School, will play Y. Naakda’s “Etude-Allegra.” Aleksander Vezuli, a graduate of the National Conservatory in Albania, won the First National Award in Composition in 1988 and 1990 in Albania and will perform on guitar several pieces including Gerry Rafferty’s “Intro from Baker St.’. Lisa LaBella, soprano and graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, has performed in Italy in the Festiva Liricira Italiana and will sing Puccini’s “O Mio Babbio,” Donizetti’s “Prendi Per Me Sei Libero” and Luigi Arditi’s “Il Bachio.” She will be accompanied by Alla Arzoumanov. George Whetstone, violinist and graduate of the Hartt College of Music, will perform an original piece of music by Bayai DeLeon who will accompany him on the piano. Sara Simas, soprano and graduate of SUNY Fredonia, has performed opera extensively in Orange County and was named Actor of the Year by the Times Herald Record. Simas will sing John Jacob Niles’ “Evening” and Vincenzo Bellini’s “Ah’Non Credeo.” The art exhibit is the eighth in a continuing series “Music and Movement” displaying both local and national artists. All artwork is available for purchase. Profit from sales will benefit “Little Feet Dance Company” to support their community service performances.
