Czech composer to perform and present master class at college

Middletown Tomas Svoboda, a professor emeritus at Oregon State in Portland, will be a guest of Orange County Community College, Middletown campus, on Sept. 22 and 23. At 10 a.m. on Sept. 22, Prof. Svoboda will present a Master Class, Communication Between a Composer and and the Audience, in Orange Hall, Room 23. At 3 p.m. on Sept. 24, he will perform a piano recital, "Music from Bohemia," the Orange Hall Theater. Born in Paris of Czech parents, Prof. Svoboda was considered Czechoslovakia’s most important young composer by the early 1960s. He composed and had his first symphony premiered at age 16. Then, in the mid-60s his family moved to the United States where he enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Southern California. All programslecture, master class, and recital performanceby Tomas Svoboda are open to the public. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and alumni, and free for all students.
