Blanket-making project to help children Middletown Project Linus Blanket Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Town of Wallkill Community Center in Middletown, off Route 211 on Wes Warren Drive. The project’s mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets and afghans, lovingly crafted by volunteer blanketeers. Quilts for children in need will be assembled during Project Linus Day. Volunteers are needed; anyone who can learn to tie a square knot may join in between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. “Community involvement is vital to the success of this event, and it is hoped that as many people as possible will come and help make these blankets,” said Julia Sullivan, coordinator of the Orange County/ Pike County Chapter of Project Linus, which began six years ago. The 100 percent volunteer organization has now delivered over 10,600 handmade blankets to children. For more information call Sullivan at 692-2536 or 570-775-0539, or e-mail oclinus@ptd.net.
