Concert to aid Alzheimer's social program

Margie and Dave (and Friends) will bring their acoustic harmonies to the Greenwood Lake Elks Lodge on Saturday, Nov. 14, to benefit the Alzheimer's Association Music Social Program.

The program provides a safe and fun way for people who suffer from Alzheimer's, a severe form of dementia, and their caregivers to socialize and enjoy time together.

Melinda Burgard, owner of Melinda's Music, is hosting the family-friendly event, which will also feature free balloon sculptures, a tricky tray, a 50/50 and snacks.

The entrance fee is $5 per person or $20 per family (free for ages 3 and under). The program will run from 2 to 5 p.m. at the lodge, 35 Chestnut St. in Greenwood Lake.

An estimated 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's, a progressive disease for which there is no cure, although treatments can temporarily slow the worsening of symptoms.

The Music Social Program, says Burgard, not only gives patients and caregivers some nonpressured time, but also allows patients "to utilize the healthy side of one's brain, the creative side, to enjoy, play and participate in music and dance activities with loved ones."
