Concert in the Park' to raise money for humane society
Entertainment by local DJ and Cover Up Band Goshen The Goshen Humane Society will be holding a Concert in the Park fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church in the Village of Goshen. The day’s entertainment includes a broadcast by DJ Tommy Lee Walker of 107.3 WRWD from noon to 2 p.m., followed by a performance by the Cover Up Band from 2 to 5 p.m. Also under the big tent will be refreshments for sale, including hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks, sno cones, popcorn, and cotton candy. The humane society will also sell 50/50 tickets and raffle tickets at $10 each. The 50/50 pot is growing daily, with tickets already on sale at the shelter as well as the State Farm insurance office on Route 17A. Raffle prizes include four New York Yankee tickets valued at $400, two tickets for Jimmy Sturr’s Christmas show, a television, and a barbecue grill with a value of over $500 donated by Werner’s in Florida, N.Y., among many other prizes donated by local merchants. Educational material on pet care and pictures of all the animals available for adoption will also be available. Rick Bossley, president of the humane society, said there is a need to increase shelter’s size because it is “too small to accommodate the needs of our ever-growing village and town.” The event’s proceeds will help put an addition on the shelter and offset its everyday operational costs, he said. Bossley noted that each animal gets medical attention and is spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter. “Some months our veterinarian bills are close to $3,000,” Bossley said. “Every dollar we raise at this fundraiser will go to care for our animals.” For information on how to help at the fundraiser, or to buy a 50/50 or raffle ticket in advance, call or visit Bossley’s State Farm office on Route 17A and Gibson Road or call 294-9101.
