Concert and car show are firefighters' gift to the community
Goshen The Goshen Fire Department will sponsor a band concert and car display on Saturday, Sept. 1, on the village green, located at the corner of Main and South Church Streets. The fire department will not be charging admission, and the refreshments will also be free. “This is an afternoon hosted by the firefighters to thank all of our citizens and friends for their generosity and kindnesses over the years,” said fire Chief Sean Thornton. The car display will begin at 2 p.m. on the drive in front of the Presbyterian Church. Anyone with a custom or classic car may put their wheels on display. Participants should have their vehicles on-site by 1:45 p.m. In conjunction with the car display, Goshen’s firefighters will have all of their “rolling stock” out that day, a display that should be of great interest to the kids. Members of the department will show visitors around and explain the workings of the various fire vehicles and the equipment they carry. Beginning at 3 p.m., the Middletown City Band will present an old-fashioned band concert, using the monument in the village park as their bandstand. The band is an old favorite of the Goshen firefighters, having led their fire parades for the past several years. They will play a mix of show tunes, patriotic airs, and marching band standards. Visitors should bring a lawn chair or blanket. Before the concert, and during intermission, firefighters will be serving hot dogs and soda to everyone who attend. They are hoping for a big crowd. Chief Thornton urges everyone to come out and support his members and join the firefighters for an enjoyable afternoon.
