Community Center offers life drawing class

WARWICK-Life drawing offers local artists a unique opportunity to draw and come together to connect with the community. A non-instructional life drawing group session will resume at the Warwick Valley Community Center starting Monday, Feb. 28. The Community Center is a central convenient location for many local artists. With the newly renovated space, new heat, high ceilings, large mirror, model stand and hardwood floors, the space is ideal for creating. For centuries artists have drawn from the nude model to study human form. Working from the figure is a way for artists to work intuitively and develop their skills. Dr. Frederick Franck, a prominent international and local artist, has emphasized the importance of drawing the figure in his many books about drawing. In a conversation with Chris Brune, another local artist and member of the drawing group, Franck said he "would encourage every artist to draw the figure as much as possible because it is the most intimate connection we can make with the human spirit." The drawing sessions are a great community gathering for artists. During the model-breaks there is an exchange of ideas, techniques, materials and community news. It is a relaxed, non-competitive environment. The poses vary, beginning with one minute and lengthening to 20 minutes. They are always looking for models; all body types are welcome.
