Comedy duo to play Lycian before going to Broadway

Sugar Loaf The Kings Theatre Company will present the Umbilical Brothers comedy team in their last pre-Broadway appearance at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. The Umbilical Brothers are David Collins and Shane Dundas, the Australian duo known for their off-Broadway show “Thwak,” which won a Drama Desk Award nomination for the Most Unique Theatrical Experience. The brothers have created a cult-hit mix of tightly choreographed mayhem, mime, and live audio-acrobatics the effect of which they describe as “inspired anarchy.” The Umbilical Brothers have performed on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno as well “The Late Show” with David Letterman. The New York Times said their show at the Minetta Lane Theater was “a hit” and called it “wildly creative and wildly funny.” The New York Daily News wrote: “They will have you howling with delight. Blue Man Group and Stomp ... make room for Thwak.” Time Out called the show “twisted, marvelously peculiar and absolutely hilarious.” Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for youth (18 years and younger) and can be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre box office at 469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts is an equity theatre committed to bringing professional cultural events to the Mid-Hudson region. The Kings Theatre Company is a not-for-profit organization producing many of the shows held at the Lycian, including a children’s theater program produced under contract with Actors’ Equity Association and a monthly Play Reading Series.
