Beatles tribute band to honor one of its own, taken too soon Goshen — The late Jonathan George will be honored at a Beatles tribute benefit concert by his band, Twist and Shout, at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Jonathan George Memorial Fund to rebuild the Maney-Hawkins Memorial Meditation Garden, located on the church grounds. George died on Jan. 24, 2006, from a massive heart attack. At age 23, he was the youngest member of Twist and Shout, a Beatles tribute band popular throughout the Mid-Hudson region. George was also a member of the First Presbyterian congregation. “The band, family, friends in the community and the entire region have been inspired by Jonathan’s incredible love of music and unyielding spirit to entertain,” said Wayne George, Jon’s father, manager, and fellow band member. “Jon’s music touched so many people in such a short time.” The non-denominational meditation garden will include a labyrinth for spiritual meditation and a columbarium, where the ashes of loved ones may be reposed. To date, the Jonathan George Memorial Fund has raised nearly $15,000 0 for this project, approxinately half of the funds needed to complete the memorial. Ground was broken at the site last April. The garden is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. The concert will open with a performance by “Epiphany,” the church’s own praise band. Desserts and beverages will be available during intermission. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, and free for students with children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the door starting at 6 p.m. on the day of the show. For more information call the church office at 294-7991.
