'Colonial Comforts' project call for foodies

| 08 Nov 2018 | 07:01

WARWICK — The Friends of Hathorn Living History Group is sponsoring a colonial cooking learning project from November to January that will culminate in a "tasting" event on Jan. 20, 2019, from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. at Warwick Senior Center, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick.
If you are curious about the food ways of the past and how they stack up to today’s yummies, join the fun by picking out an authentic recipe to make and bring from a period cookbook or an “as nearly as I can” adaptation.
There will be an organizational meeting on Monday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, or email for details.
There are period cookbooks available for free online, or sample the Townsends video channel on YouTube.
No need for an open hearth or cast iron kettle - modern kitchen preparation is fine.
All are welcome to participate — beginners to expert cooks.
Learn about:
• What locally sourced foods or exotic imports did they nibble on?
• Was it pretty awful stuff or are their hidden treasures to enjoy?
Test out your recipes on your family this holiday season or get the kids involved, too, and learn a little early American history along the way.
