College to hold aria and concerto contest

MIDDLETOWN-The Orange County Community College orchestra will hold its fourth annual Aria and Concerto Contest for Orange County high school students and SUNY Orange students between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006. In case of poor weather, auditions will be on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006. Applicants must complete and submit an application by Monday, Dec. 12, 2005. Applicants should choose an aria or concerto, from a repertoire that was composed in the 1830s, that lasts approximately 10-20 minutes, and has a published and available orchestral accompaniment. Depending upon the length of the repertoire, a partial or complete instrumental concerto or multiple vocal arias can be performed. All applicants must bring his or her own accompanist. Soloists for the May 6, 2006, spring concert will be chosen by audition. A panel of music faculty from SUNY Orange will judge the instrumentalists and vocalists. For more information, call 341-4787.
