Classical recital scheduled at library

    Middletown —Friends of Thrall Library will present a recital of classical art song and show music titled “Songs, Lieder, Chansons, Airs & Tunes,” with soprano Julie Ziavras and pianist/composer Steve Margoshes, on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. Greek American soprano Julie Ziavras and Broadway orchestrator Steve Margoshes showcase their diversity in a program that will introduce audiences to new and original songs. The program weaves a mix of classical art song, folk elements, English traditional airs interspersed with old and new music from Broadway and the musical theater. Featured are works sung in English, French, Spanish and German by Mahler, Fauré, R. Strauss, Grainger, Gershwin and Weill. Showcased are Margoshes’ original works that include songs from his original scores of “Fame, The Musical,” and its sequel “Fame Forever,” which premiered in the United Kingdom in April 2007. The recital will be held in the 2nd Floor Community Room on The Middletown Thrall Library, located at 11-19 Depot Street. It is free and open to the public.
