Children to learn Indian dance

    Monroe — From August 8 through 13, the East-West School of Dance in Monroe will offer a children's course in Kathak dance, the traditional classical dance of North India. The daily camp will be led by award-winning dancer and educator Pt. Satya Narayana Charka. The students, age 7 to 12, will learn about music, rhythm, history, footwork, hand and arm movement, costumes and dance mythology. They will also explore yoga postures, meditation and Sanskrit. At the conclusion of the week, students will perform in an public recital. Tuition is $250. Intermediate and advanced camps are scheduled for later in the month. Camps are held at the East-West School of Dance at Ananda Ashram, 13 Sapphire Rd., Monroe.
