Chester — All Chester residents are invited to participate in the 17th annual Chester Halloween Parade. The parade will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. Registration will be at 1 p.m. at 10 Greycourt Ave. in Historic Downtown Chester. The parade will end at the Village Barn on Vadala Lane. In the event of rain, participants will gather at the Village Barn. The barn will also be the site of a first-ever addition to the parade: a community party, complete with games and other fun activities for all ages. The party begins at 2 p.m. and will continue until 6 p.m. Police will close off Vadala Lane for the event. A DJ will entertain at the party and give away prizes. The fire company will prepare free refreshments for all. New this year are the Hambletonian Hatters, who will wear their famous red hats with their Halloween costumes while riding atop their float. Other parade highlights include Walton Engine and Hose Company fire trucks, classic cars, and the traditional witch wagon hosted by parade co-chair Phyllis Battiato. There will be many prizes and free raffles for all who participate. Categories for the costume contest are: Prettiest or Most Handsome, Cutest Infant or Toddler, Scariest, Most Original, Best Adult, Best Duo or Group, Best Pet Entry, Judge’s Choice, and Best Overall. Each has first, second, and third place as well as honorable mentions, for a total of 36 possible prizes. Sponsors this year are the local Kiwanis Club, parks and recreation department, and the Police Benevolent Association. For more information, call Battiato at 469-4956.
