Chess association announces spring calendar

    New Windsor —The Hudson Valley Chess Association has announced its spring calendar: The Hudson Valley Snowball Chess Championship will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21. Featuring both adult and scholastic chess tournaments, as well as a snowball-eating contest for scholastic chess players, this event will be hosted by the Coldenham Fire Department. Seventeen-year-old Michael Raphael will lead chess players from throughout the Hudson Valley to the Dyson Center for Cancer Care at Vassar Brothers Hospital, as Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer, on Superbowl Weekend, Feb. 4. A two-day Chess Festival comes to the Newburgh and New Windsor area, as the Hudson Valley Chess Association hosts four major events in early March. The Hudson Valley K-12 Championships and the Hudson Valley Adult Team Challenge will take place Saturday, March 10, followed by the Hudson Valley Chess Association’s Bughouse Saturday Night Marathon, which is open to both members. The Hudson Valley Scholastic Team Challenge also will take place on March 11. This event will face off some of the finest scholastic teams from throughout New York State.
