Checklick to speak at interservice event

    NEWBURGH - John C. Checklick, president and chief professional officer of Orange County United Way, will speak at the annual Interservice Club Luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Mount Saint Mary College. Checklick’s affiliation with the non-profit organization began while he was employed at Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. He served on its board of directors for a dozen years, and chaired the board from 2001-03 and the annual campaign in 1997-98. The Poughkeepsie resident worked for Central Hudson for 33 years, retiring as vice president of Customer Service and Marketing in 2004. He continues to serve the community. He serves on the board of trustees of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation and the board of directors of the Johnes Home, and is a member of the Walden Rotary Club. For more than 30 years, the Interservice Club Luncheon has brought together service organizations in the greater Newburgh area to celebrate community work. The Newburgh Kiwanis Club is sponsoring this year’s gathering. The invited organizations are: American Legion Post 1420, New Windsor American Legion, Judson P. Galloway American Legion Post 152, Business and Professional Women of Newburgh, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Junior League of Orange County, Cornwall Lions, Meals on Wheels, Newburgh Lions, New Windsor/Cornwall Optimists, Newburgh Rotary, New Windsor/Cornwall Rotary, UNICO and Zonta.
