WARWICK — Charlene Hirschberg and Larry Olden were first-prize winners in the Warwick Friends of the Library Couples’ 2018 Bridge Marathon.
Winners were announced and prizes awarded at a gathering of the players.
Judy and Al Buckbee received second prize and Becky Stage and Steve Craver finished third.
The Friends sponsors three marathons for women in addition to the couples’ marathon.
There is a $20 entry fee for each player and the proceeds, about $1,500 annually, are donated to the Albert Wisner Public Library’s Friends group.
Entrants follow a schedule which tells them whom they will play each month and who will host the match at their home.
The time for the match, which consists of 20 hands of bridge, is set at the convenience of the people involved in that match.
The marathons emphasize fun and sociability.
