West Point —Staff Sergeant Erin Bubalo will present a clarinet recital at the West Point Jewish Chapel at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. The recital will feature the Clarinet Sonata by Francis Poulenc and the “Premiere Rhapsody” by Claude Debussy, as well as the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. Sergeant Bubalo will be accompanied by her husband, Drago Bubalo, on piano. Francis Poulenc’s Clarinet Sonata, dating to 1962, is one of the last pieces he completed. Because Poulenc died before the piece was published, editors have had to guess as to the identity of some notes, as well as missing dynamics and articulations. The piece is dedicated to the memory of Arthur Honegger. Its premiere was given at New York City’s Carnegie Hall by Benny Goodman, accompanied on piano by Leonard Bernstein on April 10, 1963, three months after the composer’s death. Attendees ought to allow extra travel time for the vehicle and photo I.D. inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates.
