Salisbury Mills — A series of ceramic tiles displaying the art of John Fleming Gould (1906-96) will be sold to benefit the new National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, scheduled to open at the New Windsor Cantonment in Vails Gate today, Nov. 10. The 6-by-6-inch tiles are Purple Heart editions of Gould’s American Revolution Trilogy: “Last Great March,” “The Last Cantonment,” and “Peace 1783.” The pictures form a sequence of events leading to the American Revolution of 1776’s first Order of Merit at Newburgh in 1783. The Order of Merit is known today as the Purple Heart Military Award. There are 1.7 million Purple Heart medal holders who distinguished themselves in wars from the American Revolution of 1776 to the combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. A Purple Heart logo is displayed on each one of three images. The tiles are gift-boxed with documentation. Prints of the trilogy, framed and unframed, are also available. Part of the proceeds of the sales will be donated to the Hall of Honor building fund. For more information call the Bethlehem Art Gallery at 496-4785.
