Pianists Victoria von Arx and Janice Nimetz will perform solos and duos by Franz Peter Schubert, a contemporary of Beethoven, as part of the Music in Central Valley scheduled for Jan. 29.
Music in Central Valley resumes its community music programs on Sunday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. at Central Valley United Methodist Church with a program of piano music by Franz Schubert.
Pianists Victoria von Arx and Janice Nimetz will perform solos and duos by a contemporary of Beethoven whose compositions are also among the masterpieces in the piano literature.
Victoria von Arx served for 16 years on the music faculty at the University at Albany, where she was a frequent piano soloist and chamber musician. With advanced degrees in both piano performance and musicology, she has performed and taught in New York City, New Jersey, Michigan and Wisconsin, and has served on both the faculty and executive committee of the Adamant Music School in Vermont.
Janice Nimetz currently serves as piano mentor for Songcatchers, a music program in Westchester County designed for students of limited financial resources, and as Director of Music at Central Valley United Methodist Church. Formerly on the music faculties of Emma Willard School in Troy New York and the Rockland Conservatory in Spring Valley, she has performed as duettist in Saratoga, Glens Falls, and Albany, and as soloist in New York City, Rhode Island and Orange and Westchester counties. In addition to a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, she holds an advanced degree in the history of education.
The program
The program includes the Wanderer Fantasy in C Major, D. 760; Sonata in A Minor, D. 784; Rondo in A Major, D. 951; and Characteristic March No. 1, D. 886.
Admission is free with a suggested donation at the door. The church is handicap accessible.
