Celebrate the life of Dr. King

Warwick Union African Methodist Episcopal Church in Warwick will hold a service celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. Many local churches and officials will participate in the service, to be hosted by Warwick United Methodist Church, located at 135 Forester Avenue at Route 17A. The Rev. Chris Yount is pastor at the church. The Rev. Vernon H. Peters and the members of Union African invite the community to come and share this memorable experience. Events in Garrison The Desmond Fish Library in Garrison will hold a free potluck supper (bring food to share) and talk as part of the annual series “Bringing the Dream Home: Civil Rights and the Hudson Valley.” The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20. Scott Bennett, author of “Radical Pacifism,” and special guests who lived this history, will address the American lineage of Gandhian non-violence through the War Resisters League and Fellowship of Reconciliation, and how it affected Dr. King. At 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, the Desmond Fish Library will offer a free children’s program in the “Bringing the Dream Home” series. This year “Kids and Non-Violence” is the theme, and will feature Jeani Miller, facilitator for Creative Response to Conflict, and storyteller Jonathan Kruk.
