Celebrate 'Summer Strings and Song' in Tuxedo on June 7

TUXEDO — The Tuxedo Performing Arts Group will present “A Celebration of Summer Strings and Song” at St. Mary’s-In-Tuxedo Episcopal Church, 10 Fox Hill Road, Tuxedo, on Saturday, June 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The concert will combines talented professional vocalists and musicians with the 50 young people who make up the various choirs of Jubilate choir. These students perform both locally and in a wider area, including New York City, Carnegie Hall and St. Paul’s Chapel at Ground Zero.
The June 7 program demonstrates their versatility in musical styles from classical to choreographed show tunes in four voice parts.
Jubilate is directed by David Crone with Steven Wing assisting and accompanying.
Vocalists and string quartet
The professional vocal soloists are Jody Weatherstone, soprano, Brian Gens, tenor, and Steven Wing bass.
The Schubert String Quartet, comprising Laura Grecco on violin, Sarah Tusch on violin, Piotr Kargul on viola and Greg Phillips on cello, will open the program with the Andante from Schubert’s String Quartet no.13 in A minor (Rosamunde) and combine with organ, Jimrae Lenser, the vocal soloists and the full Jubilate Choir to perform Schubert’s Mass in G.
In the last section of the program the Jubilate choir will split and present pieces written for female voices and pieces written for male voices. These will include such well-loved songs as ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and ‘I Believe’ from Spring Awakening.
