Candlelight Tours at Hill-Hold
Goshen County Executive Edward A. Diana invites you to come celebrate the holiday season with Candlelight Tours at Hill-Hold from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, and from noon to 4 p.m on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16. Your visit will begin with a stroll down old Albany Post Road to the Goosetown School House where little elves from the Hamptonburgh Highlights will be assisting you in making a teddy bear ornament. Continue your tour along the illuminated path outside the school to the stone house built in 1769 by Thomas Bull. As you enter the homestead the simple pleasures of fresh greenery, hearth fires and the aroma of mulled cider will tingle your senses. The parlor will host the traditional holiday tree with antique toys sprawled all around the room. Aunt Cheri and Aunt Sheila will be in the workroom to greet you with the demonstration of feather trees. Crafted from a wire frame and dyed goose feathers, feather trees became popular in Germany in the late 1800’s, when efforts to save woodlands led to the widespread use of artificial Christmas trees. Aunt Millie will welcome you to the summer kitchen with the smell of corn cakes being cooked over the open-hearth fire and baking in the bee hive oven. End your journey with a visit with St. Nick. Rumor has it that his sled will land in the Hill- Hold barn filled with presents and a treat for all. Hill- Hold is located between Goshen and Montgomery on Route 416. Refreshments will be available. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children. For further information, please call 457-4905.
