Candlelight Tour of Historic Homes set in Newburgh
NEWBURGH — The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, located in the heart of the Mid-Hudson Valley, will hold its annual Candlelight Tour of Historic Homes on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 12 to 5 p.m. The tour begins at the David Crawford House, 189 Montgomery Street, Newburgh. This opulent 1830s home, located in New York State's largest upstate historic district, will be decorated inside and out, using fresh greens, flowers and fruit.
Tour participants will receive an illustrated booklet that includes a map of all the sites on the tour. These include 14 private homes and rarely seen public spaces which exemplify Newburgh's rich architectural heritage. Participants tour the properties at their own pace. Tickets are available for a $25 donation if purchased in advance and $30 if purchased at the Crawford House on the day of the event.

Make a day of it and support another local group: The City of Newburgh Firefighters' Benevolent Association will be hosting a pancake breakfast on the morning of Dec. 9. Kids under 12 eat for free, adults pay $5 for all you can eat and the proceeds will benefit the Long Beach, Long Island community as they try to rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The breakfast will take place at 22 Grand Street, Newburgh, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
