LOCH SHELDRAKE - Sullivan County Community College will present the Brighton Russian Ballet Holiday Show at 2 p.m. on Nov. 26 in the College’s Seelig Theatre. The performance by the Brighton Ballet Theater Professional Performing Company celebrates the holiday season and is suitable for the entire family. According to the company’s Web site, the Brighton Ballet Theater Professional Performing (BBT) Company is the primer Russian ballet and folk dance group in New York City. Founded in 1987 in order to preserve and share the rich historical traditions of Russian dance in New York, BBT Company has also grown into the only presenter of new choreography by emerging Russian choreographers in the United States. Company dancers are all graduates and former soloists from the best dance theaters of the former Soviet Union, St. Petersburg Kirov Ballet, Moscow’s Classical Ballet, Bolshoi Theater, Ukrainian State Theater of Classical Ballet, Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, who seek to share their impeccable training and love for dance on the stages of New York. The company has performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, Tribeca Theater, Madison Square Garden and many others throughout the tri-state area. As the sole representative of Russian dance in New York, BBT is often invited to perform at special events such as the opening of the Faberge Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the opening of “Unseen Treasures in Russia” at the New Jersey State Museum, an annual performance of “From Russia With Love” at the New York Aquarium, and “An Evening with Vivaldi & Verdi” at the Merkin Concert Hall. The BBT dancers wear original costumes that are designed and hand-made by Russian costume designers in New York, who occasionally also collaborate with Russian theaters for materials and production of costumes. In addition to Russian ballet and folk dance, BBT also performs a variety of international folk dances, as well as jazz and theatrical pieces performed for various special occasions. The Brighton Russian Ballet Holiday Show is sponsored by Sullivan County Community College, the Sullivan County Democrat, and radio stations WSUL 98.3 and Country 95.9. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors, students, and staff.
