Warwick — Taekwondo Master Doug Cook will discuss his new book, “Traditional Taekwondo Core Techniques, History and Philosophy,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, at the Albert Wisner Public Library at 2 Colonial Avenue in Warwick. The author will also offer a taekwondo demonstration, and follow with a book signing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. The book describes the history and evolution of taekwondo, from its ancient roots to modern day applications. Also included are exercises in “ki” or internal energy development, meditation practice, and practical self-defense strategies. The focus is on the traditional aspects of taekwondo, rather than on its sportive component. Cook, who resides in Warwick, holds a fourth degree black belt in taekwondo, and is certified as an instructor by the U.S. Taekwondo Association and World Taekwondo Federation. He is a contributing columnist for the “Taekwondo Times,” and director of the Chosun Taekwondo Academy on Main Street in Warwick. His earlier book, “Taekwondo - Ancient Wisdom for the Modern Warrior” has become recommended reading in taekwondo schools worldwide. Registration is required. To register, call 845-986-1047.
