Bob Fletcher introduces new book at Wisner Library signing

WARWICK — Local artist and author Bob Fletcher introduced his new richly illustrated book, "High Breeze: An American Family Farm," at a book signing hosted by the Albert Wisner Public Library on Oct. 12.
The original artwork from the book, published by Iron Mountain Press, was also on display.
Prior to the book signing, Fletcher, a resident of New Milford, gave a brief introduction to his new book about the farming legacy of High Breeze Farm at Wawayanda State Park.
High Breeze was a 184-acre farm owned and operated by the Barrett family from 1860-1983. Luther Barrett, who became a close friend of Fletcher, was the last farmer to work the farm.
"High Breeze: An American Family Farm" is a compilation of stories with accompanying artwork about life on the farm and the neighboring area during the Barrett family tenure.
The stories were hand-recorded soon after Barrett told them in his concise, descriptive and colorful manner.
The narrative with Fletcher's appropriate artwork is grouped into the four seasons of the year as Barrett lived his life until he passed away in 1986 at the age of 76.
He had a keen interest and expertise in animal husbandry and spring, for example, was when the newborns brought life to the farm. And during the winters of bygone days, he recalled, a team of oxen was used to plow the road so that the cans of milk, covered with horse blankets to keep them from freezing, could still be delivered on time to the Borden creamery in New Milford.
Through the artist's sketches, paintings, and the many preserved stories as told by Barrett, the family's sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle is presented for today.
