    — The Albert Wisner Public Library is proud to celebrate February as Black History Month.
The library staff encourages the community to explore black history and the African American experience by attending library events and browsing the display of literature, film and music that depict the rich culture and heritage of African Americans:
Hudson Valley Ebony StringsSunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
Join the library for an afternoon of beautiful music performed by a chamber orchestra comprised of young and talented African-American musicians.
The mission of this group is to play concerts in the area aimed to inspire other young African American students to embark upon a stringed instrument and passionately play music together.
The group is led by Elissa Jones.
African American Book ClubMonday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
The library is introducing a new African American Book Club led by Ralph William Boone.
The focus of the group will be to read and discuss African-American literature.
On Feb. 26 the group will discuss Ta-Nehisi Coates’ book, "Between the World and Me."
Published in 2015, the book is written as a letter to the author's teenage son about the feelings, symbolism, and realities associated with being Black in the United States.
Critic Michiko Kakutani, writing in The New York Times, offered this assessment: “Powerful and passionate . . . profoundly moving . . . a searing meditation on what it means to be black in America today.”
Copies of the book are available at the Library.
Essentials To attend these programs, register on the library’s website albertwisnerlibrary.org or call the library at 986-1047 ext. 3.
