Big band evening and sunset picnic planned at Boscobel Museum grounds
GARRISONOn Saturday, September 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., Boscobel, a museum located in Garrison, across the Hudson River from West Point, will celebrate the last days of summer with a Big Band Evening and Sunset Picnic. Visitors are invited to bring a picnic supper and enjoy an evening of music and dancing while the sun sets over the Hudson River and the Highlands. It is also suggested that visitors bring a chair or blanket. The gates will be open to picnickers at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6 p.m. The Big Band Sound jazz orchestra recreates the swinging jazz sounds of the big band era, performing compositions that span a century of music including songs made famous by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Harry James and the Dorsey brothers. The Big Band Sound is a 20-piece jazz band, consisting of six saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, guitar, bass, piano, drums and male and female vocalists. The group has been performing for over thirty years. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for Friends of Boscobel and $8 for children, ages 6-14. Children under the age of six years are admitted free of charge. In case of inclement weather, the picnic concert will take place under a large tent.
