‘Best Little Whorehouse' comes to Playhouse

Monroe — Creative Theatre-Muddy Water Players’ 2007 season concludes this September with the Broadway musical, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” This happy-go-lucky view of small-town vice (and statewide political side-stepping) recounts the good times (and the demise) of the “Chicken Ranch,” known since the 1850’s as one of the better pleasure palaces in all of Texas. Governors, senators, mayors and even victorious college football teams frequent Miss Mona’s cozy bordello ... until that puritan nemesis Watchdog focuses his television cameras and his righteous indignation on the institution. The production is under the direction of Cynthia Topps. Joel Flowers is the musical director. Choreography is provided by Jill Carroll. Performances are scheduled for Sept. 14, 15, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16 and 23 at 7 p.m., and a matinee performance on Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. All performances are at the Playhouse at Museum Village, Route 17M, in Monroe, N.Y. Tickets to individual performances are $20 each, which includes dessert at intermission consisting of apple pie, ice cream, iced tea and coffee. Group rates are available; reservations are suggested.
