Beat the winter blues at the community center

    Warwick — The following classes will be offered at the Warwick Valley Community Center at 11 Hamilton Ave. in Warwick. For more information or to register for any of the programs at the center, call 986-6422. •Drawing I - Charcoal and Eraser for Adults will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 24 to Feb. 21. Learn how to draw basic shapes; the importance of composition, value and light in your drawing; and how to critique work. Projects will include learning how to arrange a still-life with objects from home, and how to create a still-life drawing. The fee is $80 plus the cost of materials. •Oil Painting for Adults will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 25 to Feb. 22. Learn the traditional approach of seven simple steps, utilizing underpainting as the structure of your work; color theory; how to mix paints; and how to develop a well-composed painting. The fee is $80 plus the cost of materials. •Cooking with Roseanne for children in grades K-5 will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Fridays, Jan. 27 to Feb. 24. Learn to measure, and make fun and easy recipes, including fruit smoothies, other healthy meals and holiday treats. The fee is $32. •Beginning Drawing for children will be held on Wednesdays, Jan. 24 to Feb. 15. For children in grades K-2, the class will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. For children in grades 3-5, the class will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Learn to draw what you see, using pencil, charcoal and pastel techniques. The fee is $32 plus the cost of materials. •Small Fry Preschool - There are still openings in the three-year-old afternoon class, held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a gently structured learning environment. •Free Teen Center is open every afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m., and offers a variety of activities for students in grades 6-12. •FREE Smoking Cessation Program will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, led by Dr. Pat Alfarone, in conjunction with the Orange County Department of Health.
