Baby Grand Books jazz series begins March 22

    WARWICK—Baby Grand Books, 7 West St. in Warwick, will host a spring/early summer concert series beginning Saturday, March 22, featuring some of the area’s top musicians. • Saturday, March 22: Pianist and composer Richard Kimball is collaborating with acoustic bassist David Edwards in a program of American jazz and standards together with some rarely heard tunes. • Saturday, April 22: Guitarist Mike Jackson and pianist Rave Tesar have a unique relationship. Their collaboration began more than 30 years ago. They are each rooted in the rhythm and blues and rock music of the 60s and 70s but have extended their reach into the great American standards, Bebop and original music. • Saturday, May 17: An assortment of jazz classics by the Bob Rosen Quartet, “Just Friends,” featuring Bob Rosen, saxophone; Bill Pernice, Piano; Robert Kopec, bass; and Bob Meyer, drums. • Saturday, June 14: The Dave Smith Quartet featuring Frank Petrocelli on tenor sax. This quartet go off the beaten-path of jazz standards and will feature compositions by Chick Corea, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Fee for all four, one-hour concerts is $50, which includes a pre-concert mixer, with wine and cheese served at 4 p.m., and a viewing of the documentary Lush Life, on the life of Billy Strayhorn, on a separate date, with concerts beginning at 5 p.m. Individual tickets per concert are $15 each.
