Warwick — A recently released DVD of a dance film will be shown at the Baby Grand Bookstore in Warwick on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Compiled into one DVD titled “Choreotunes,” they are actually two dance films: “Rags for Lizzie” and “Journey.” Choreographer and producer, Elizabeth Geyer Gottlieb, was a dancer with the New York City Ballet under George Balanchine. The videos were shot in New York City on 3/4-inch tape in the very early days of the video-dance genre. The dances were conceived for video, and make use of camera and editing techniques that are common today, but were first used in these films. Original music and set design coupled with amazingly talented and expressive dancers help create an engaging experience for the viewer. “Rags for Lizzie,” contains music by Composer Michael McFrederick and “Journey” by Composer Stuart Diamond. Both composers were recipients of the prestigious grant award for music from the Criterion Foundation of Dallas, Texas. Pianist Wanda Maximillien, ( “Rags for Lizzie,”) is an award-winning musician, who won the coveted Young Artists prize from Columbia Artists. The dancers, Elizabeth Hall in “Rags,” and Regine Maximillien and Julian Montaner in “Journey,” all had major dance careers in the 1980’s. Julian was a silver medalist in the Varna International Ballet competition and danced for many years with the Joffrey Ballet Company. “Journey” features set design by Don Warshaw, and lighting by Aristedes Pappidas, with costumes by Natalie Garfinkle. The producer, Elizabeth Geyer Gottlieb, will be present to autograph copies of the DVD, which can be purchased at the bookstore. The Baby Grand Bookstore is located at 7 West St. in Warwick.
