Autumn programs at Florida Public Library

    Florida - Registration is open for fall programs at the Florida Public Library. Registration by phone at 651-7659 or in person is required for all programs. Programs that require a deposit must be registered for in person. Priority will be given to residents of the Florida School District. • A six-week schedule for preschoolers with Miss Maria is offered on Wednesdays or Thursdays, beginning Sept. 12-13. Rhymetime for toddlers aged 18-35 months will meet at 10:30 a.m. for fingerplays, read-aloud favorites and simple crafts. Storytime for preschoolers aged 3-5 years will meet at 1:30 p.m. with Miss Maria and her helper, Miss Mary. All preschoolers attending programs must be registered. • Books and Beyond is a series of drop-in programs for children in grade K-5 on Tuesday afternoons at 4 p.m. No registration is required. Sept. 11: Aesop’s Fables and a puppet show. Sept. 18: Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening n read and paint. Sept. 25: These Happy Golden Years n stories of pioneers. Oct. 2: Tuck Everlasting - Imagine living forever. Oct. 9: From Country to the City - Create a play. Oct. 16: See “Little House on the Prairie” on THE BIG screen. Also, on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. the movie “Arthur’s Lost Library Card” will be shown for kids in K-5 on the big screen in our children’s room. • Tuesday evenings are reserved for young adults for students who have completed grade 6 and up. Sept. 11, 6 p.m.: Watch “A Wrinkle in Time” on the big screen. Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m.: Discuss “A Wrinkle in Time” and prepare a salad “from another world.” Sept. 25, 6:30 p.m.: Learn about “Carry On, Mr. Bowditch” and cook three dishes inspired by the immigrants in the book. Oct. 2, 6:30 p.m.: Listen to excerpts from “Leaves of Grass” while creating a weave of grasses and other organic objects. Oct. 9, 6 p.m.: Watch “The Great Gatsby” on the big screen; refreshments served. Oct. 16, 6 p.m.: Watch “Napoleon Dynamite” on the big screen; quesadillas served. • Adult programs will take place on various other days and evenings throughout the month. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6:30 p.m.: Crazy for Cupcakes. Learn a variety of creative ideas to decorate cupcakes for festive occasions. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2 p.m.: Watch “Father of the Bride” on the big screen; wedding cake will be served. Monday, Sept. 17, 6 p.m.: Knitting Circle for experienced and beginning knitters. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m.: Book discussion on “Bel Canto” by Ann Patchett. Pick up a copy now. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 6:30 p.m.: Art Class: Relief Painting. Create an autumn table runner. A $2 materials fee is due at registration. Thursday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m.: Sixth Annual One Town, One Book kick-off at the Italian Villa in Warwick. This year’s selection is “Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson. Call the Albert Wisner Public Library at 986-1047 to register. Sunday, Sept. 30, 12-2 p.m.: Village Walking Tour with Bob Scott from the Florida Historical Society and retired teacher Diane Leo. $5 fee due at registration. • Many family programs also will be offered: Tuesday, Sept. 18, 8:30-4:30 p.m.: Used book sale at the Florida Farmer’s Market.
