Auditions for the SummerStar Theatre production of the musical “A New Brain” will be April 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and held at the Orange Hall Theatre at SUNY Orange/Middletown campus. Rehearsals are Monday-Friday evenings, and weekends as needed. “A New Brain,” music and lyrics by William Finn, book by James Lapine, centers around an angry and depressed song writer who suffers “a cerebral episode” ending up face down in his pasta. He re-evaluates his approach to life after several hallucinogenic episodes, brain surgery, and a run-in with his boss, Mr. Bungee (a malevolent children’s TV celebrity who plays a frog) who haunts and harasses him throughout his stay in the hospital. Performances are June 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8 p.m. and June 15 and 22 at 3 p.m. Those auditioning should bring the sheet music for his/her song. An accompanist will be provided.
