The following is a list of programs and events at the Florida Public Library and the Albert Wisner Public Library in Warwick. Florida Public Library 651-7659 For families: Register by Wednesday, Sept. 27, to enter the Scarecrow Contest. Create an old-fashioned scarecrow at home by yourself, with your family, team or other group. Bring him/her to the library by 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, during the Anniversary Celebration. Judging based on creativity will take place at noon. Call the library for more details and information about other anniversary events. Used Book Sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Florida Public Library, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Seward Senior Center next to the library. For children: Books & Beyond is a drop-in program on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. for kids in grades K - 5. Sept. 26: Make a greeting card using pressed flowers and other organic materials. Oct. 3: Make a Woodsy Vase with twigs. Oct. 10: Decorate a Frame with acorns. Oct. 17: Create a Portrait of a Tree for your frame. For young adults (grade 6 and up) Watercolor Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. for Adults and Young Adults. Learn the basics of painting a watercolor landscape. Free. YA Discovery on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26: Anime & Manga Club. Oct. 3: Create decorative garnishes. Oct. 10: Title Pictionary. Oct. 17: Internet Scavenger Hunt. Oct. 31: Anime & Manga Club. For adults: Dutch Tile Painting on Sunday, Sept. 24, from 2 - 4 p.m. Create your own painted tile using stencils provided or freehand. The tiles will be fired for you and returned in a week. Free. One Town, One Book kick-off event, sponsored by Florida Public Library, Greenwood Lake Public Library and Albert Wisner Public Library, at the Hickory Hill Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. Chuck La Rocca will introduce this year’s selection, “The Red Badge of Courage,” and speak about the actual historical events depicted in the novel. Albert Wisner Public Library - 986-1047 Adult programs Sept. 26 at 7 p.m Mind Body Connection with Arlene Prince. This is a holistic model addressing the influences of thoughts, emotions, environment, health, lifestyle, and social support on health and healing. Arlene Prince has advanced training in mind/body medicine at the Mind/Body Medical Institute of Harvard University. Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Halloween Book Discussion, “Gerald’s Game” by Stephen King. Experienced players or novices welcome meet every Wednesday at 6:30 to play. On the last Wednesday of the month chess Master Ed Dubin will discuss strategy and answer questions. Teen Advisory Board. The library has a Teen Advisory Board that meets regularly to help with library events and programs for teens. Students grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate. The dates are Mondays Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Children’s programs Programs open to all children residing in the WVCSD.
