Arts Council hosting film SPARK event

SUGAR LOAF — The Orange County Arts Council, as part of its efforts to develop a county-wide film office, is hosting its next SPARK event on Monday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Downing Film Center in Newburgh. August’s SPARK event will focus on local film and animation projects.
SPARK provides an opportunity for everyone to be a supporter of the arts for an evening and is designed to use community-driven financial support to democratically fund local art-makers.
Here’s how it works: Anyone with a film or animation project concept can submit a brief description (500 words or less) to the Arts Council and request SPARK funding to help get it off the ground. At the SPARK event, all attendees pay $10 at the door. Food and refreshments are served and everyone has a chance to network and socialize. Project proposals are distributed to all attendees and those people who are looking for funding are given up to three minutes to talk about their project. Everyone has a chance to vote for their favorite project and the winner gets the SPARK money collected at the door that evening to assist with their project. The more people that come, the more money is given away.
The Arts Council is encouraging local film-makers and/or animation artists to propose collaborative projects that will benefit the community. Anyone who has a project they would like to submit should download a proposal template from the Arts Council Web site at www.ocartscouncil.org or request one at jen@ocartscouncil.org. All proposals should be received by the Arts Council no later than Aug. 23.
The Orange County Arts Council’s mission is to champion the arts, connects artists and audiences, and fosters the growth of the county's creative resources.
