Arts Center hosts grand opening

SUGAR LOAF — Members of the Kings Theater Board of Trustees hosted the grand opening of the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center on Oct. 11 with Town of Chester Supervisor Steve Neuhaus, Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Last February, the Kings Theatre Co., a not-for-profit theater production company, took ownership of what was known as the Lycian Center. The Theater Company had been the primary operating entity at the Lycian, which was founded by Richard Logothetis in 1993.
The Kings Theatre Board of Trustees stated their intention is to build on the success of the Lycian Centre and advance its mission into a vital and thriving cultural center that nurtures great art and makes performance accessible to every part of the community.
They reported that exciting changes have taken place at the theater complex including new paint, new signs and new management. And reorganized as a not-for-profit theater in February, the complex, renamed the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center (SLPAC), is now prepared to become the premiere performing arts center for the greater Hudson Valley.
“In partnership with the community,” said Interim Director Paul Ellis, “the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center will fulfill its mission to enrich the lives of residents and visitors to the Hudson Valley with performances that entertain, inspire and educate audiences of all ages.”
The lineup of great entertainment continues right through New Year’s Eve with a gala end of the season celebration featuring world-renowned Brazilian percussionist Cyro Bapatista and his world music extravaganza Beat the Donkey. Add that to a season which includes Toots and the Maytals, Ramblin Jack Elliott and Del McCoury.
With a full schedule of events and the daily business of running a performing arts center, the newly updated center is a beehive of activity.
