Artist wants you to think- outside the box

Goshen — Mixed media artist Frank Shuback of New Hampton is now showing his work in a new exhibit, “Think Outside the Box,” at the Orange County Government Center in Goshen through Dec. 20. “Art is the visual expression of the artist’s sense of life,” writes Shuback. “Sometimes I see it and then work on it. Other times I just work on it and then see it.” He relies mainly on found objects make of wood, metal, plastic, and glass, which he incorporates in his sculptures. “I acquire most of my material from garage sales and antiques shops in the area,” he writes. “I work for clarity and precision, yet the work must finally be mysterious and unusual. It must express structure, order, the marks of overall controlling intelligence, yet it must be alive, free, spontaneous. The ruled edge and the improvised accidental line, together and harmonizing.”
