Middletown — Aleathia Brown considers her artwork to be her visual voice. With that theme in mind, she will present a master class for students and the general public at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, in Orange Hall Gallery at Orange County Community College. Brown’s art documents community and cultural history. During the class, she will relate her journey as an African-American in the art world - demonstrating technique, detailing influences in her life, and describing what brings her inspiration. In addition, she will talk about making a living at art, give ideas on the presentation of one’s works in exhibit and in the portfolio, and comment on balancing the practical end of art and with the creative. A resident from the Bronx, Brown will discuss her struggles, challenges, and rewarding experiences. The Lyceum event, the fourth in a series celebrating Black History and Heritage, is free and no reservations are necessary. The show “Artworks by Contemporary African-American Artists,” will be on display through Sunday, Feb. 26. For more information, call 341-4891 or visit www.sunyorange.edu/lyceum.
