‘An Afternoon to Remember’

WARWICK — The Warwick Historical Society and Foundation of St. Anthony Community Hospital are planning “An Afternoon to Remember” for May 5, where the two organizations plan to host the largest tented formal tea party ever staged in Warwick.
The festive event will take place in Lewis Park and will reflect the ambiance showcased in the popular TV series “Downton Abbey.”
Part of the day’s events will include a trip back in time when formal garden tea parties and grand sea voyages were commonplace.
Grand tours
In homage to this tradition — beginning at noon on May 5 — guests will register at the A.W. Buckbee Center where they will receive a “Passport Journal” and enjoy a grand tour of five Historical Society museums.
Each museum will showcase new examples from the society’s famed clothing collection. The museums will also be open to the public on May 5.
Additionally, “tussie mussie” making will take place at the Buckbee Center and small tea tins will be given out to each guest, to be filled with traditional teas as they tour each museum.
Tea under the tent
Guests will then be directed to enjoy tea, an array of treats, a silent auction and a string quartet under a large airy tent on the lawn at Lewis Park from 2 until 4 p.m.
Symbolic of the partnership of the two organizations, the committee has decided to honor a very special resident of Warwick. Lillibet Lewis McLean’s family members were very instrumental in forming and growing both the Warwick Historical Society as well as St. Anthony Community Hospital and all proceeds from the day will benefit St. Anthony Community Hospital as well as benefit and preserve the historical society’s collections.
