Amity Foundation for Healing with Horses will host its second annual Kentucky Derby Day Party

WARWICK — The Amity Foundation for Healing with Horses will host its second annual Kentucky Derby Day Party on Saturday, May 5, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at the Amity Farm, 44 Amity Road in the Town of Warwick.
Among the sponsors already signed on are Thrivent Financial, the Greater Hudson Bank as well as the Jimmy Sturr Travel Agency.
The fun-filled event will raise funds to support the foundation’s ongoing efforts to help those who have experienced trauma — from veterans and first responders to adolescents who bully recover with the support and assistance of Amity’s horses.
The detailsThere is a $5 entrance admission for a chance to view the race on a big screen and bet on the second running of Amity’s herd of Great Dane dogs.
Attendees can also “Eat like a Horse” by purchasing an assortment of grazable foods and refreshments including hamburgers, sausages plus wine and beer.
Live music and special this year — a chance to win tickets for two on 18-time Grammy Award winner Jimmy Sturr along with Mollie B’s Caribbean cruise to honor veterans in January 2019.
A silent auction featuring a Big Bag of Black Dirt from Pine Island Turf are among the festivities which includes tours of the facility and grounds.
The workThe foundation has already hosted workshops for veterans as well as veterans and their spouses, adolescents with self-esteem issues and the homeless.
Licensed equine therapist Corey DeMala, who co-founded the foundation with Equine Specialist Christine Swanson Dykshorn, conducts the workshops and assists participants as they work through their issues in an environment that can be helpful and promotes healing.
“We strive to provide services at no-cost or on a sliding scale according to each participant’s ability to pay,” she DeMalia said.
