America’s drone warfare to be subject of local film screening on July 21

ROCK TAVERN — A screening of Drone Warfare: Awareness and Action will take place on Saturday, July 21, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern, 9 Vance Road, New Windsor.
The screening, which is open to the public, will be followed by a discussion led by the Rev. Chris J. Antal, the congregation’s minister and nationally recognized authority on drone warfare and moral injury.
Antal is a former Army chaplain who served in Afghanistan as an Army chaplain but resigned his commission because he could not support the United States’ armed drone and other military policies.
Drone warfare has escalated in war zones as well as in areas where war has not been declared in the past decade. More than 80 countries, as well as groups such as ISIS, now have drone warfare capability.
Moral, ethical and theological issues are raised, but with little public debate. The Interfaith Network on Drone Warfare has produced five half-hour videos on the issue. This screening features two of them:"Unmanned: America's Drone War" (30 minutes) investigates the impact of U.S. drone strikes at home and abroad; and "National Bird" (34 minutes) follows the story of three whistleblowers who broke the silence about America's drone wars.
Refreshments will be served. A donation of $5 to $10 is suggested. For more information, call the Antal at 845-297-2792 or email antal@uuma.org.
