Goshen — Every 2.5 seconds someone needs blood, according to the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which is holding a blood drive in conjunction with Community Blood Services to help insure the needs of local patients will be met. The drive will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the Cataract Firehouse on Green Street. There is currently less than a day’s supply of blood, according to the corps. Any healthy individual, age 16 through 75 and weighing at least 110 pounds, can donate blood. Donors should eat a moderate meal before donating and must bring identification showing their signature. Donors who are 16 years old must have a parent or guardian complete a permission slip form. Call 294-9695 to get the permission slip. A free cholesterol test is done for each donor. Community Blood Services is a non-profit independent community center that supplies blood to Orange Regional Medical Center, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Orange County. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the ambulance corps at 294-9695.
